CEU stands for Continuing Education Unit
CEC stands for Continuing Education Credit
Let's break the phrases into two parts:
Continuing Education & Unit/Credit.
Continuing Education is a broad term that signifies constant learning in one's field.
As a Health & Fitness Professional, you must keep learning and state up to date.
The Health & Wellness Industry is evolving daily, with new research being released regularly. As a professional, keeping up with the latest knowledge and trends is imperative.
You demonstrate commitment to your clients when you keep acquiring knowledge and learning about the latest science and trends.
This constant professional development also helps you keep your business ahead of the game! More credentials mean more business.
Most Health & Fitness Education schools and organizations require that their students acquire a given number of CEU/CECs every few years to keep their certificates valid.
Units/Credits
A Unit or a Credit corresponds to the number of education hours a trainee has devoted to learning and acquiring knowledge in a respective field.
In the Health & Fitness Industry, both CEU & CEC essentially mean the same things and these terms are used interchangeably to signify continued education by a trainee.
CEU/CEC- One Unit is equivalent to 1 hour of Structured Education approved by an accreditation authority.
For example, our flagship course, Holistic Nutrition Coach Certification is approved by NASM for 1.9 CEUs.
1.9 CEUs equates to 19 hours of structured learning.
Of course, the main idea is not just to secure a certificate but also to acquire knowledge and gain the necessary skills to help your clients in an effective manner.
As already discussed, the LPA Model is the process to follow and would take much more time than 19 hours.
